Re: (GMB) OOC

So, here I am. I must apologise for leaving you all in the lurch. Since we got back from Tasmania I have had one crisis after another, or so it seemed. Things are a bit more stable now but I can't yet tell whether my time will be more available going forward, or if demands will mount once again. So,...

Re: Grant's Military Bookshop - bookhounds of london recruit

Grants is still open for fine and rare book sales, and we have a vacancy for anyone wishing to play Mr Grant the bookseller. People are free to redesign the character to taste, within some limits.

Hi all,

The family and I are taking a 2 week camping holiday starting in a couple of days - so I will probably be off air until early February. See (read?) you all then.

Re: The British Library Reading Room (Day 3)

As the reading room is now closing for the day, the men of Grant's venture once more into the street, returning to their musty haunt, or perhaps in search of a refreshing beverage?

Re: Down these labyrinthine streets...

Luke pulls John hurriedly away from the Hansom cab. As the two glance fearfully over their shoulders, they see a conservatively dressed businessman, clutching his Times and umbrella and checking a fob-watch, blindly rush up the station stairs and climb into the cab. The door snaps shut like a mouset...

Re: Down these labyrinthine streets...

The door of the hanson cab opens. Long John Sees, the dead Field Marshal beckon him towards the open door with a skeletal hand. He has a sudden conviction that to step into the cab is to die. Maybe even to have been dead since Ypres. Luke Sees,Seated within the cab is a skeleton, dressed in the heavy...

Re: Down these labyrinthine streets...

As the two men stand in the courtyard of Charing Cross, looking askance at the street lights, they are abruptly forced to jump aside by a horse-drawn hansom cab - a rare sight since the War. The driver yells something at them in antiquated cockney slang before pulling up at the station's taxi rank.

Re: Down these labyrinthine streets...

Perhaps anticlimactically, the Underground station appears much the same as it always does, full of the frenetic bustle, screetches of metal and oily smells of the modern age. Following their noses and subliminal promptings from Stevenson, the two men descend and then reascend again, as they have do...

The postman's knock announces the delivery of a letter to the shop. The letter is addressed to Mr Harwood c/o Grant's Military bookshop, in a feminine hand. The envelope is a soft, thick paper, suggesting money. There is no return address, but the envelope is closed with a wax seal with some sort of...

The man sneers. "Oh yes, and how 'small' a consideration are you talking? For your supposed help? I don't think they welcome beggars in this establishment."

The waiter arrives with the drinks tray.

How much time is left before the Reading Room closes? If time permits, I shall spend a new point in History and request 15th-18th century travelers accounts from the Levant, focusing on anyone who might have passed near this "Chorazin" place in their travels. Failing that, perhaps some Cl...

Hi everybody, I'm very sorry for this long and unscheduled absence. I work in the Australian public service - as some of you might know, we have just had a change of government and this has meant a lot of extra work. I've been dealing with some mental health issues too. All of which has left me a bi...
