Strachan Stopping in the shade by the hotel entrance he braced himself against the heat. Strachan took the froc...

Granville Michaels Fifteen minutes later, he stepped from his room and made his way down to the dining room. A sleepy looking native lad was sat in a chair but sprang up when he saw Granville. Thomas Wakeham Thomas shook off his brooding, and determined to take a ride before his appointment, perhaps up to the northern end of the city. Re: OOC Comments, Questions, Etc.

Takes this for what it is worth but it seems in line with the more academic sources: A quarter of the entire population of Victorian Britain was living in poverty. 40% of the country’s wealth was owned by 5% of the population. During the Victorian era, the middle-class was growing and those who were...

Re: OOC Comments, Questions, Etc.

Gaffer, Income will come with the appointment after your meeting with Sir Talbot. As something rough and ready, let's say that every character here in India has EDUx10 in ready cash, line of credit, immediate savings, etc. Given that 100-200 pounds is a decent ANNUAL income in the 1850s for someone ...

These are stats from the Mysteries of the Raj sourcebook. I'll check my Gaslight Equipment Guide later on for anything I don't have stats for. Howdah Pistol (.577), 15% base, 3d4 damage, 5 yds base range (they are basically oversize shotgun pistols), attacks 1 or 2, ammo 1 or 2, reload 1/2 rounds (2...

IC Day One, 1 January 1857

"Depend upon it, Calcutta is the finest place in the world. I know there are towns with far larger and grander buildings; but then they are not half so clean, and new, and beautiful, as this bride-like city. I have been standing on the roof of the house the last half-hour for air, and, as it w...

Re: Diverse Background Info, Tidbits, and Esoterica

Gaffer, I'll say you can find a Howdah pistol, which is in decent repair, plus a dozen rounds worth of ammo and powder for about 1 pound and 6 shillings in one of the main markets of Calcutta. It's made by a local firm, based off an existing European model, and it has been converted to a percussion ...

Re: Diverse Background Info, Tidbits, and Esoterica

Firearms: The 1850s see extensive use of percussion cap based firearms. While older flintlock weapons are still found throughout India, the most modern weapons are percussion weapons, including the first revolvers that are appearing. Pepperbox weapons, usually all pistols, are the first attempt at m...

Okay, as you can tell, I am about a week behind schedule. Life, work and my birthday all popped up in the middle of things.
